You’ll need to take the bubbles apart and study how the animations are attached and how the elements are positioned.

It has light animations, so it shows off your skills well.
It also makes it easy to feature your own work, and it’s easy to read.

Just swap the images and text, and it easily becomes your own site.
Changing the email settings may confuse you a little, but the work itself is very simple.

Pros and cons

The pros: the design is simple, so it’s easy to change yourself,
and the site is easy to read, which makes it well suited to submitting for job interviews.

The con: you can’t differentiate much through design.
If you don’t especially need your portfolio site to stand out, this is the one I recommend most.

This is the most elaborate design among the portfolio sites in this article.
It uses lots of animation and calls for a range of skills.
If you can build this, people will assume you can make fairly high-level sites.

Estimated working time: 8 hours

You’ll need to change the information beyond the home page as well as the contact form, so it will take a bit of time.

Pros and cons

The pro: if you can build a site at this level, the portfolio site itself becomes your pitch.
I think it will also bring you to the level where you can build new sites in Webflow.

The con: it takes time.
Even if you try to remodel it to add originality, a finished site like this is hard to modify.

Templates for restaurants

‍A single-page template you can easily turn into your own business’s site.
Recommended if the menu is the main thing you want to show on your website.
For an izakaya (a Japanese-style pub), you can use it as is.
Putting your Instagram link in the Gallery lets it work nicely with social media.

Estimated working time: 1 hour

Just changing the header color, fonts, and photos goes a long way toward making it look like your own restaurant’s site.

Pros and cons

The pro: it’s very easy to change.
Even people who have never built a website can create their own right away.

The con: it can only hold the bare minimum of information.

Recommended if you want a website with a slightly more elaborate design.

Pros and cons

The pro: the clean design with moderate animation
sets you apart from other restaurants just by using it as is.

The con: beginners may end up making a mess of it partway through.

This is the most elaborate restaurant template.
Its pages are organized into levels, so it can hold a lot of information.
The design is also clean and easy to follow, so it’s recommended if you want your website to properly introduce your restaurant.

Estimated working time: 2 days

With so many pages, it will take quite a while.
The 2 days assume all the text and images are already finalized.

Ordinary website production takes about a week, so 2 days is actually quite fast.
If you can change all of this yourself, you’ll gain solid skills.

Pros and cons

The pro: you can build a site on par with a professional’s.
It should be quite effective for attracting customers and for branding.
In fact, you can make a better site than companies that charge ¥200,000–¥400,000 for website production.

A free template modeled on Apple’s sales page. With this template, building a cutting-edge website like Apple’s becomes easy. When someone tells you “I want a website like Apple’s!”, using it as a reference will save you a lot of work.

The creator, moritzpetersen, explains the steps to build this template in a video, so watching it and learning how to build it from scratch is also an option. Maybe I’ll make a Japanese explanation someday.

Showcase ② Windows 95 (not clone)‍

Windows95 could be called the starting point of the IT revolution, and today’s prominent figures all talk about the shock of ’95. That said, I’m not all that familiar with it myself.

This website was modeled on that Windows95. Actually, it’s less “modeled on” than “a complete recreation.” Some people will feel nostalgic. By the way, this one can’t be cloned and used. It’s better described as a work of art.

Every corner of this site is crafted with care. Somehow my computer feels like it got slower. lol

Showcase ③ ‍PlayStation 4

A website imitating the PlayStation 4 screen so closely that people might suspect your computer has been modded. The way every detail makes you think it’s the real thing is genuinely exciting.

Clicking a game with the mouse plays a game video, and there’s even an account creation page. Let’s set aside for now how you would use this as a business website. Just knowing that Webflow can build something this advanced opens up all kinds of possibilities. By the way, this PS4 site can be cloned too. You can change the user icons, game screens, and more yourself.

If a gamer’s portfolio site were a game screen itself, that alone would make them stand out!

Protocore has made many other interesting works besides the PS4 one. Do visit their account page once. I can’t say whether they’ll help as references for a business website, but every one of them is a unique site. If a hospital ever adopted a game-screen website, it would be such a mismatch that it would become a talking point (lol). Though complaints that it’s hard to read would probably pour in…

Showcase ④ ‍History of anime

Amazingly, this website has no (script) animations at all. Yet it has all sorts of tricks, such as character backgrounds changing and drawings being added as you scroll. Do visit it once. You’ll probably find yourself scrolling all the way to the bottom.

The creator says they “made it for their own work and will keep updating it,” so it may be even more impressive by the time you visit.

Showcase ⑤ ‍Pokémon card website

A website with a trick: hover the mouse over it and Pikachu moves and turns into a Pokémon card? Pikachu’s lightning looks very three-dimensional… actually, it is 3D. Depending on how you customize it, you could place your favorite character or your company’s mascot the same way. To do that, though, you’ll need a 3D character design.

A friend of mine does 3D design and metaverse architecture as a hobby, so if you’re thinking “I want to create 3D objects or a metaverse inexpensively,” feel free to contact me. I’ll ask whether it can be done.

Showcase ⑥ ‍Sunset

This web design looks just like the opening screen of a game. Each cloud has its own animation and drifts slowly. The background is also very three-dimensional, making for a highly elaborate build. This one can also be freely edited. The structure may not be clear at first glance, but you’ll gradually understand it as you edit and play with it.

It uses many images, so it may load a little slowly on lower-spec PCs and smartphones. Used for a party reception page or a club event, it would make for a stylish event that’s fun starting from the website.
