How to Connect a Custom Domain in Webflow (Beginner-Friendly)

Webflow updates constantly, so details may have shifted slightly by the time you read this. If something doesn't work as described, check the official docs.

What plan do you need, and how long does it take?

Plan: from $14/month

Connecting a custom domain requires a site plan. A Workspace plan alone cannot do it.

  • Site plan from $14: required for domain setup (see our pricing guide for current figures)

If you're only running your own site, a site plan is all you need; Workspace plans are for juggling multiple projects.

Time required

About 15 minutes, in just 4 steps. Let's walk through them.

How to connect a custom domain in Webflow

These steps assume a registrar that doesn't support Webflow's one-click integration — in that case you use manual setup. (The original article covers Japanese registrars, but the procedure is identical everywhere.)

  • [Step 1] Buy a domain
  • [Step 2] Add it to Webflow
  • [Step 3] Configure Webflow's DNS records
  • [Step 4] Set the default domain

[Step 1] Buy a domain

Choose a trustworthy registrar — compare pricing and support and pick what fits your needs.

Internationally, Cloudflare is my recommendation.

What is Cloudflare? A company providing services that improve website performance and security: CDN, DDoS protection, SSL certificates, and more — faster load times and stronger security in one place.

What makes a good domain name?

Domain names are said to have no SEO impact, so choose what you like — with three tips:

  • Keep it as short as possible
  • Make it instantly legible
  • Never include another company's name (webflow-japan, wix-design, etc.)

Including another company's brand is absolutely off-limits: it looks like a scam site, and the brands themselves prohibit it.

[Step 2] Add the domain to Webflow

With a site plan purchased, custom domains unlock. Add yours under Webflow's "Publishing" settings.

Click the blue "Add a custom domain" button next to "Production", choose "Manually add domain", and enter your domain.

Webflow then shows the records to configure — take them to your registrar.

[Step 3] Configure Webflow's DNS records

Configuring Webflow's dedicated DNS records

At your registrar, create three custom records of type A, CNAME, and TXT, and copy-paste the values Webflow provided:

  • A
    75.2.70.75
    99.83.190.102
  • CNAME
    www
    proxy-ssl.webflow.com
  • TXT
    one-time-verification=01ab2345-cd67e-89f0-11gh-12i13456j789k

Set all of them, using the exact values shown after Step 2.

Some registrars can't hold every record — in that case, use Cloudflare for the DNS layer (you can use Cloudflare's DNS alone without transferring the domain).

Back in Webflow, when the domain reads "Connected", you're done.

[Step 4] Set the default domain

Finally, unify your URLs by setting a redirect: make the "www" domain the default and you're finished.

Also, under "SEO", disable indexing of your webflow.io subdomain.

Finish by Googling your domain and confirming the site is reachable. Note DNS can take up to 24 hours to propagate depending on the registrar.

After the domain is connected

Next comes publishing and measurement — set up these tools:

  • Analytics
  • Search Console
  • A rank-tracking tool

Use them to track traffic and improve content. Sites don't attract visitors at first — focus on rankings and keep at it steadily.

If the domain won't connect

"Custom DNS" sounds intimidating, but it's really just copy-paste. If you're stuck, we can resolve it — get in touch.
