MLJ Inc. | Migrating more than 100 articles from WordPress to Webflow
We migrated the corporate site and content platform of MLJ Inc. from WordPress to Webflow. The aim was to raise operational efficiency and display quality without losing the value of the existing assets, so we comprehensively redesigned more than 100 articles along with the associated media, analytics setup and search index assets.
Background
MLJ runs its content operation around technical information and case studies, but plugin dependency had made maintenance heavy, display speed varied, and the editing experience had grown complicated.
To satisfy ease of updating, display performance and brand consistency at the same time, we carried out a full migration to Webflow, handling everything from information architecture through implementation, launch and getting the new workflow to stick.
The problem
The design had to be renewed while the existing URLs and the internal link network were preserved. Inconsistent article templates and uneven white space were hurting the readability of Japanese text, and years of ad-hoc insertions had left the analytics tags duplicated and hard to manage.
Approach
We redefined the information architecture and remodelled the content types — categories, tags, authors, case studies — in Webflow CMS. The article template was redesigned around Japanese typography, reworking heading hierarchy, leading and paragraph rhythm, and unifying the visual flow between index and detail pages. For URLs we set a canonicalization policy and carried search equity across with a permanent redirect map.
Migration plan and implementation
Only the articles and case studies managed in the WordPress CMS were in scope for migration. Site structure, SEO and everything around them were rebuilt from zero and redefined to fit a modern information architecture. This was not a simple migration but a rebuild-style migration, aimed at straightening out the existing assets and growing them again. The first design draft was supplied by the client.
On the technical side, the Webflow CMS build ran alongside domain configuration and email infrastructure work. Because the domain was held with a Japanese registrar, connecting it to Webflow took about an hour of verification, so we did the work after midnight to keep disruption to the client’s business to a minimum.
Technical solution
Articles, case studies, products, news and recruitment were separated into distinct CMS schemas. The sitemap was split by category to improve crawl efficiency.
Domain migration and email infrastructure
For the domain migration, we reconfigured the A and CNAME records at the registrar for connection to Webflow hosting. Automatic SSL issuance and HTTPS redirects were enabled, making the cut-over from the old environment smooth. This stabilized the site’s display speed and security and improved the user experience.
Alongside this we built out the email infrastructure. New custom-domain email addresses were set up and the MX records adjusted, so the company now operates on the same domain as the website. That raises the credibility of the corporate domain and stabilizes inquiry handling and internal and external email.
Putting both domain and email in order gives brand consistency and ease of operation together. On top of the Webflow build, the company now has a stable foundation for communication on the infrastructure side as well.
What we cared about
We respected existing content that holds real asset value, while achieving both beauty in Japanese and ease of operation. Treating the template as a foundation rather than a mould, we redesigned it for MLJ’s context — the largest effect from the smallest set of changes.
In closing
More than 100 pieces of accumulated company knowledge now sit on a platform where they can be operated quickly and beautifully in Webflow. Including the domain migration and the custom email addresses, the result is a setup that supports sustained, extensible communication and the credibility of the brand.
