Expressing the mood of Kyoto and the traditions of Japanese cuisine

A second renewal project, rebuilt with Figma and Webflow

We handled the homepage renewal for Taisho, a Japanese restaurant in Kyoto.
Webharu first worked with them two years ago. Under the condition of building within the scope of a subsidy, we designed a foundation focused on ease of operation, and half of the site was built by the owner in a joint production format.

This time, as a second chapter, we carried out a large-scale renewal in step with the brand’s evolution, under the themes of a refreshed homepage design and the launch of an e-commerce business.

Background

The initial site, produced with the help of a subsidy, worked well enough for a local restaurant, but as the business expanded the design, user flow and information architecture needed review. In particular, launching the e-commerce business called for a design renewal connecting the restaurant floor with the online store.

Webharu kept the structure of the existing site while redesigning the whole in Figma, and built a modern homepage in Webflow that makes full use of animation.

Webharu’s approach

Design concept

Fusing the mood of Kyoto, the traditions of Japanese cuisine, and a modern e-commerce flow
• Color and white-space design that holds the brand’s stillness and warmth together
• A visual-led structure that conveys the food, the restaurant and the faces of its people
• Animation that stages the flow of hospitality

Implementation and feature design

• Visuals and motion designed together in Figma, with UI animation planned at the structure stage
• Fade, slide and timeline effects implemented in Webflow
• An optimized route to the e-commerce site, building a natural flow toward purchase and reservation
• Responsive support for comfortable operation on smartphones

Scope

• Homepage renewal design
Figma design build
Webflow implementation and animation design
E-commerce site integration setup
Responsive optimization and UX improvement

This renewal was designed around the brand theme of moving forward while keeping tradition.
Animation expresses the contrast between stillness and movement, connecting the experiences of visiting, buying and browsing seamlessly.

What Webharu focused on

Two years on from the initial build, Webharu delivered a renewal that evolves along with the restaurant.
Rather than a mere design change, we drew on the operational history so far and optimized along three axes: usability, ease of updating, and brand experience.
Combining precision of construction in Figma with expressive power in Webflow, we reproduce the craftsman’s intent and the air of Kyoto within the digital.

This project was not an extension of the initial build but a second chapter for the brand — a design renewal that connects to the future.
